ANDREEA CHIRICĂ
Cum a fost anul 2021 pentru tine, un an pandemic cu multe restricții, în care domeniul cultural a avut mult de suferit?
– Ce te-a inspirat în procesul de dezvoltare al creației tale?
How was 2021 for you, a pandemic year with many restrictions, in which the cultural field suffered a lot?
2021 was more “normal” than 2020, I think I got used to the “new normal”. The previous year’s panic was replaced by a kind of resignation and a desire to adapt. There were no fewer projects than in the previous year, so I can’t complain about that and being more lonely anyway (drawing and drawing involve many hours of isolation) I didn’t feel any difference compared to previous years.
What made you get involved in this project, a project that talks to people in Romania and Norway about living with HIV?
I always felt the need to use illustration as a tool for learning, education (and self-education) and social involvement. This project suited me like a glove in my style and challenged me in a unique way to communicate with people with an impressive life story and to assess my own prejudices.
– What inspired you in the development process of your creation?
Of course, the story of the person based on whom I created the character and whose life story I tried to tell as objectively as possible, but also intimately at the same time. I tried to let go of my judgment and become the “pencil” with which he tells his story.
– What is the message that your work conveys to the public?
A humanist message, about resistance and hope. Not falsely optimistic but really encouraging. Ignorance and separation are never solutions, while information and involvement are.
